Problems rendering aiStandardHair Shader in Arnold,Trouble getting a good render with the AIStandardHair Shader

I have some locks of hair that were made with Ornatrix and converted to mesh that I'm trying to render out. I've applied the aiStandardHair Shader to them, but the result is choppy and strange. Nothing shows up on my diffuse AOV, only spec. The only difference between the spec and beauty render is a white background on the beauty render. I've tried several different lights, but nothing seems to change the choppy result of the hair. Right now the scene has a maya directional light and an aiSkyDome.

I've created some locks of hair in Ornatrix, converted them to mesh and tried to render them out. I'm using the AiStandardHair shader but I'm not getting a good result. It's very choppy and strange. When I render out my AOVs, the only thing that shows up is spec and there's no diffuse color at all, and again all the spec is choppy. There's no difference between the Spec AOV and the beauty render, except the beauty render has a white background. I've tried several different lights, but it didn't change the result(there is a directional light and an arnold sky dome in here at the moment) I'm not finding an answer to this anywhere, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Standard Hair is meant to render curves, not meshes.

ahhh ok. So would AIStandard be a better shader to use on mesh hair then?
