Hi,
I have been using this shader for a while now and I must admit I find it quite difficult to control and get the desired results. It seems quite bare bones in terms of control compared to the old one and other similar shaders (such as the PxrMarschnerHair).
Also it seems there are no AOVs for the transmission and second spec lobe. Is this because spec 2 and transmission are all rolled into spec 1? Is there anyway around this with LPE?
Is it possible to control things like specular gain in this shader?
I have to match something using the PxrMarschnerHair so im wondering if I am better off going back to the old hair shader so I can see the AOVs and have a bit more control over parts of the shader, though im concerned it seems quite noisy compared with the new one.
Any advice would be appreciated
thanks
Do you have any renders/photos of what you are getting versus what you are aiming for? Shader settings would be useful too.
Hi Lee... thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I do not have permission to share any renders.
Really for me its to understand the best workflow in terms of how I can control things like the amount of transmission and spec indivdually, if that is possible.
Currently to match the uncoloured spec 1 im turning down the values very low in the 1st spec tint. For the transmission and 2nd tint im plugging in diffuse maps and controlling them with a colour correct. Ideally I need to see the contribution of each lobe, but there doesn't seem to be AOVs for these with standard hair. Being able to split out each contribution would be half the battle for me.
cheers
oh and for now to see what each is doing im turning the tints to black - so for example to test spec 1, im setting 2nd spec tint and transmission tint to black and viewing the direct spec AOV.
cheers
