I noticed that the node definition doesn't contain definitions for maya nodes that mtoa supports, e.g file, ramp, I'm wondering if I can make it work by filling up the definitions for these nodes.
if this is possible, is there any naming rules for node name, for arnold nodes it's aiFirstSecond -> first_second, should I convert the name in this way?
You can use kick to get the node names for the MtoA shaders
cd C:\solidangle\mtoadeploy\2018 bin\kick -nodes -l shaders
