C4D won't open when C4DtoA update 2.4.2 is installed

Hello, I have the exact same situation as @Gerrit Oosterhof. Requested by @Stephen Blair I have started a new question concerning this problem. I tried the following solution and it didn't work for me. I have only just installed C4D R20 so I don't have R19, so none of the previous versions worked or showed up in the plugins tab. I am a novice user and I was hoping to start properly learning C4D with Arnold, so let me know if I'm missing anything.

My computer Specs:

  • Windows 10, 64 Bit
  • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Geforce GTX 960M

The output of running "D:\Program Files\MAXON\Cinema 4D R19\plugins\C4DtoA\arnold\bin\kick.exe" flashed a quick command window and then immediately closed, to fast for me to see anything.

I installed it on my "D:" SSD Drive. For some reason the end "-v 5-i Nul" gave me this Chrome popup window:

"This site can't be reached"

%22d’s server IP address could not be found.

  • Search Google for MAXON plugins C4DtoA arnold bin kick Nul

ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

Let me know if there's anything I can do, thanks!

You have to run kick from a command line window to see its output. Run the program cmd.exe from the start menu and type in the command there.

You can also try to write the output of Cinema 4D to a file, maybe that gives us some clue too. Just run the following from the command line, it writes the file to the desktop:

"D:\Program Files\MAXON\Cinema 4D R20\Cinema 4D.exe" > "c:\Users\Public\Desktop\c4d.log" 2>&1

Thanks for getting back to me @Peter Horvath! I typed in the prompt as you requested, and this is what came up. I also ran the cmd.exe as administrator and the screen stayed up but I received the same result.

After running the second prompt through the command line, I received this note on my desktop:

Your help is much appreciated; let me know if there's anything else I can do thanks!

You got this error because your path is wrong. You need the path where your Cinema 4D is installed, which is I assume D:\Program Files\MAXON\Cinema 4D R20. So you have to run:

"D:\Program Files\MAXON\Cinema 4D R20\plugins\C4DtoA\arnold\bin\kick.exe" -v 5 -i Nul

About the other command, it seems like it was running properly (in case your path is correct). So there should be a c4d.log file on your desktop. Could you please attach that file?
