Viewing output/ipr in ACES color space

Hi,

Have seen tuts on rendering in ACES color space in both Maya and Houdini. Is there a way to view a render/IPR in ACES color space directly inside C4D?.
Would be convenient to just specify an OCIO config in the ipr. Much like Redshift. What is the proper ACES workflow in C4DtoA?

Cheers,

See the Color Manager section of the Arnold render settings:

https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AFCUG/Color+Manager+-+settings

Note, that you can use custom color spaces only in the IPR and the Arnold drivers. Unfortunately the C4D color manager can not be customized, and so the native sRGB color space is used in the Picture Viewer and with the native Save option.

Hello

I would like to investigate a bit more into this question.

I managed to set up ACES colorpsace in IPR and it works great.
Now I would like to render out an animation.
Which would the workflow to render and export an animation sequence using Arnold with the ACES color space if it cannot be rendered in Picture Viewer?

Thanks

You can write out to EXR in linear and do the view color space transform later in post. Or you can use an Arnold Driver which supports the OCIO color manager.

Currently ACES is limited to the IPR and Arnold Drivers. I will take a look if there are any workarounds to make it work in the Picture Viewer in a future release maybe.

The ACES color space is rendered into the file, just not displayed properly in the picture viewer. Loading the renders into Nuke, Fusion, or After Effects and applying an OCIO transform will show identical results to the ipr.

We have just released C4DtoA 3.3.1 where you can save to an 8-bit image (e.g. JPEG, PNG, etc.) from the Picture Viewer using the ACES output color space. See the new Output Color Space option under the color manager settings.

Set the color space if you save it to an 8-bit image. Leave it on <disabled> when you save it to a 32-bit image.
