Will the lack of visibility track rendering in 3ds Max be addressed at any point? Currenly Arnold renders everything regardless its visibility setting. Is it possible to animate the visibility within the Arnold Properties modifier?

Transparency is handled by shaders (via Opacity). For example, with the Standard Surface, it's Special Features > Opacity (Cutout).

The visibility parameters in the Arnold Property don't appear to be animatable: you can't set keys by right clicking. But I'm not a 3ds Max power user: is there a way to do that under hood? In Maya, you can't set keys either on the visibility, but in Maya I know how to hook nodes so that an expression controls the visibility.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for a quick answer. TBH I was kind of afraid of this. I'm working on an animation involving alloy assemblies and using the method you mentioned I will have to create numerous sets of the same materials to make the parts fade in and out.

Using just the visibility to control this would be so much more convenient.

It's just a bit dissapointing, because I would not expect this lack of functionality from a piece of software bundled with 3dsMax.
