Lee Griggs' Refractive Portrait's Tutorial - Camera/Projection Node Connection

Hey Everyone,

I was trying to follow Lee Griggs' Tutorial "Refractive Portraits"...However, I'm having a problem with the graph nodes...I don't understand with attribute/parameter he uses to connect te "RenderCam" node to the projection node.

Thank you in advance!

That is automatically done in Maya when you project a file texture. That is an Arnold 4 tutorial btw. It may not work properly with Arnold 5, in case that is what you are using.

It is automatically done when i create which node exactly?

Because what I do is go to the alshader for example on the diffuse color...and instead of clicking "file" with the left mouse button I use the right mouse button "create as projection"...and the render node is created when I create the camera , but it doesnt connect to the node...so I dont get what I'm doing wrong

We don't support alsurface shaders now I am afraid. If you use Standard Surface in Arnold 5 I can help you.

You need to change the projection type to 'perspective' and then choose the Rendercam underneath.

Oh, Okay let's say I use a standard surface in Arnold 5...How do I know which attributes correspond to the alshader?

Test Transmission, IOR etc. Experiment and play around to see what works. Let me know if you come up with something that works.

@Lee Griggs

Hey, I downloaded Maya 2017 since it contains arnold 4 and installed the alshaders...And then I did the tutorial from start to end. However, It doesn't really seem to work, this is how it looks at the moment when I render:help.png
and this is my hypershade:help02.png

Sorry, I can't help you with alsurface or Arnold 4. Did you try it with Standard Surface in Arnold 5?

@Lee Griggs No, I guess it's possible to do it...but I don't know which values to use for the attributes and to which attributes connect the projection shader, as I guess the name of the attributes will be different being a different shader.

It may be difficult to reproduce, but worth a try. Try experimenting with adding the texture to IOR, Transmission and just see what happens. That is how I came up with it in the first place, by just experimenting.
