Light catcher

I'm a big fan of the shadow matte material for lots of reasons.
But I'm wondering if there is a sort of workflow where you can catch the shadows AND the lights hitting the geometry.

eg. Car driving and casting shadow on the matte surface but at the same time his headlights throw light on that surface.

Is there a way to get this in 1 render using the shadow matte ?

Sorry for the late reply. It's not possible at the moment. We're planning to improve the shadow catcher in a future (long-term) release, where this use-case might be possible to render in 1 iteration.

using two materials and AOVs. i use it all the time.

your surface material goes to one AOV, shadow matte another AOV and AO to another (i actually putting AO to Red channel and shadow matte to Green channel to save space)

At the moment it works perfectly to transfer an AO through the aov but not for the shadowpass.

Could you explain this a bit more?
Because if this works, I would use it constantly!

_edit_

I figured it out...
You have to put the shadowcolor of the shadowmatte on white and you have your shadow pass.

This is genius! big thanks for the tip!
