What does "ai" stand for?

Just curious what the "ai" in "aiStandardSurface" etc. stands for.

I'm assuming it's Arnold i-something? Can't find a reference anywhere.

Instance? Illumination? Integer? Inky? Igloo? Iguana? I-candy?

AiBegin()

Marks the beginning of a block which uses the Arnold rendering interface API.

Creating a node is done with the usual AiNode() interface.
