The warning about closest filter isn't the issue here.

For *[gpu] GPU rendering is disabled due to a previous error*

You have to restart Maya to use the GPU again

Do you still get the same gpu error after that?

I have the same error as you. I have Maya 2017 update 5 and the last Nvidia driver downloaded from the nvida page.

I restart Maya again and i have the same error, render aborted.

¿What we are doing wrong?

Try updating your nVidia driver to "creator ready driver

I have the same problem. Got a PNY GTX 2080 yesterday, installed the latest drivers and tried to fire up the GPU render in Maya 2018 and then Maya 2019 with latest version of Arnold. Got this error instead:

// Error: [gpu] an error happened during GPU rendering : Unknown error (Details: Function "_rtContextLaunch2D" caught exception: Encountered a CUDA error: cudaDriver().CuEventSynchronize( m_event ) returned (719): Launch failed)Haven't tried the creator ready driver yet, but will try tonight.

This question was about a 1070 so you don't necessarily have the same problem. The error itself is a generic crash that could be anything. In this case, since you're not using the Content Creator driver, that's the first thing you should try.
