Can't get default to work in texture tokens

With no texture defined on the shape node via the mtoa_constant_difcol attribute I want the default texture to render instead, as described on this page:

I can't get this to work. Is there a bug or is the example correct? I can't get either:

<attr:difcol default:/our_jobs_path/maya/sourceimages/1024_Testgrid.tx>

or

<attr:difcol default:/our_jobs_path/maya/sourceimages/1024_Testgrid>.tx

to work, the render is without a texture.

I tested it a bit. The default is used only if the user data attribute does not exist.

Using a full path as the user data didn't work. I had to put the path in the Texture Search Path, and the filename (without extension) in the user data or default
