Manual device selection crashes Maya

The application freezes / crashes when trying to select a specific Graphics Card among the ones listed. The outcome is a fatal error and the need to force quit Maya.

Hi

If you change the selection after you've already done a render, that will cause a crash. That's a known issue.

Try closing the Arnold Render View before you change the selection.

Hi Stephan,

That happens to me even before starting the render.

I will post the log as soon as possible. Thanks for the reply!

Update.

The manual device selection works now. I followed the advice and closed the render view before doing it.

I would like to clarify though, that there was no render in progress when I was trying to do the same with the render view open.

If you have the Arnold Render View open, then there's an active render session. The actual ray tracing may have finished (for the moment), but Arnold has not closed down, and the render sessions remains active so it can update when the scene is updated.

What I meant to say is that I opened the render view without starting any render. The render does not start until you press the play button. Or at least that's what I am used to think, like in any other renderer (E.G. in RenderMan, nothing statrs until you give the input).

In the script editor, with "echo all commands" switched on, nothing is detected apart the actions of clicking the render view icon and the opening of the view itself.

This is what I see:

So what you're saying is that even just opening the render view for the first time triggers a render session?

If you use Arnold > Open Arnold Render View, then there's no render or active render session.

That's what I do, yes.
