How to setup cryptomatte aov in Katana?

Hi,

I'm trying to get cryptomatte to work in Katata but got no luck. Ridiculously, Live Render provides looking right images (with tons of colors show up), but all exr outputs go wrong for Disk Render or Batch via the render farm. There is no any layer to pick up in Nuke using Crytomatte node. Any thought?

Thanks.

I've attached an example katana recipe for this.

The steps, roughly, are:

  1. Create the cryptomatte material, assign it to an arnoldAov shader slot
  2. Set the cryptomatte material on an ArnoldGlobalSettings node, in Channel Definitions -> aov_shaders (add an entry and assign your cryptomatte material)
  3. Create ArnoldOutputChannelDefine and RenderOutputDefine nodes for each of the cryptomatte channels you care about: probably some of crypto_object, crypto_material and crypto_asset
    1. Make sure to leave the type set to RGBA
    2. Don't forget to set the channel on RenderOutputDefine to your channel created in ArnoldOutputChannelDefine

You can enable these outputs for preview renders, but they're most useful when doing disk renders to EXR format, where you need to select the channels in Nuke/Natron/etc

Hi Mike,

Everything works great with your setup!

In the RenderOutputDefine, I made a mistake by leaving type='color' instead of 'raw'. That's why it didn't work. Anyway, many thanks for your help!

Cheers 😄
