Hey,
why the tutorials in Arnold Renderer are so incomplete?
In the Flakes Example, for instance, I don't understand if I have to connect the same shader in the diffuse color, or which setting I should use in the flake shader. Or if I have to connect the flake shader to normal with a bump shader.

It should work fine if you follow this step:
Base isn't necessary in this tutorial. It is a specular effect.
