tried in a fresh scene, create a cube, select it and go to Arnold-->Standins-->export.
Unfortunately no file created.

ASS export works fine in Maya 2017, with any version of Arnold.
Increase the Arnold log verbosity and check the log.
Check the script history for messages.

The file should be here: E:/3DWORK/ECV_2016_2017/L3/2017_xgen/scenes/test.ass
Those square brackets are stripped off somewhere along the way

Still, looks like an MtoA bug, because exporting a .ma file to [3dWORK] works
you're right, that's why i looked the wrong way ;), seemed to work fine with other formats.
