Object mask completely black for every object in IPR window and in render,Object Mask complete blackg up in IPR window or anywhere else

Hi!

I have just finished a scene and tried to render out Object Masks for individual objects, but after applying the Object Mask tags to the objects and making their custom AOVs active in the render settings (and usually I get normal results with this) nothing shows up - I can choose the AOVs in the IPR view, but they are just completely black for every object.

I tried to work out where the problem is originating, but I can't find the source problem. I am using the Arnold toon shader in the scene, could that maybe be a problem in combination with Object masks? Also I have Ambient occlusion and Global Illumination active.

Best regards,

Fynn

It seems like I am able to get results with the "aov write float" node, but then I would have to create a new material for every object

Yes, it's because of the toon shader, or more specifically the contour filter. It does not allow float type AOVs. You can select the object mask AOVs in the object tree and either change the type to RGB or change the filter to a gaussian filter.

Ah I see, so it really is the contours. Thanks!

Where exactly can I find the option to change the AOV type? In the node editor or in the render settings?

Select the AOV object in the object tree and change the Data type in the Attribute Editor.
