AOVs not rendering correctly

Hi there,

I have a bunch of AOVs/ Masks that I want to render out. I have set the display driver's type to driver_tiff, I have the Merge option off and the filter on default gaussian. When I hit render, the output consists of 8 different AOV renders that all look completely alike (I think it is only the contour alpha that is being rendered; I am using the contour shader). Although in the IPR window everything looks correct (with the display driver's type set to driver_display).

What could be the cause of this? There is a "render AOV" checkbox in the render settings>AOVs checkbox that is greyed out for every AOV except for beauty, could that be the reason?

Thank you and best regards

I did a quick test and it renders fine here. Do you have a simple scene which you can share with me?The proper setup would be using two tiff drivers, one with the contour filter rendering only the beauty, the other one with a gaussian filter rendering the AOVs. If you want to see the AOVs properly in the Picture Viewer then you need a display driver as well, but note that only one display driver is allowed at the moment, so there you have to use the other workaround and change the data type of the object mask AOVs to RGB.

Hi Peter, thanks for your answer. I have tried to do it with two seperate tiff drivers now, but it still looks the same. I have now set up a small scene where I recreated the problem. The problem still persists in the small scene. When I render out the AOVs they again look all alike... the contour lines vary in thickness, that's the only differnce I can tell.

How can I upload the small .c4d scene here? It says it only allows a few types of formats for uploading and .c4d is not one of them.

Best regards

Create a zip archive to upload. Thanks.

Oh sure, sorry, I didn't think about that. I have now attached the scene file and the AOV renders that I get.

Thanks so much for checking!

I modified your scene a bit. Changed the AOV data type back to float and set a gaussian filter for their tiff driver. I also added a display driver, just in case. There the gaussian filter is defined per AOV. Let me know if this works.

Thank you, yes it works now. I will try if it works without the display driver as well, because when I had the AOVs set to FLOAT before they were not rendering at all. I guess because I had the driver set to contour.

I will try around a bit more, thanks again for your help 🙂
