inconsistent CPU usage during render

I'm using Arnold to render a sequence of frames all with aiToon shaders and I find that after about 10 rendered frames Maya decides to use less of my CPU. It starts normally with full usage, around 90-99% and then drops off slowly till it's at 30%, which makes for long render times.

I'm aware there was a memory leak in an earlier version of mtoA, so I updated to Maya 2019.1 yesterday and have had no memory issues but I discovered this issue today which forces me to babysit the render, which is suboptimal.

Here are my HW specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 1700 8 cores

16GB RAM

GeForce GTX 1070

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The arnold logs for the fast frame and the slow frame, with high verbosity so that we also get the stats at the end, might help in diagnosing the problem. Can you provide them here?

Thank you so much for suggestion the logs. It helped. If you scroll all the way down on the log for the slow render there's a line that says: "Rendering CPU utilization was only 47%. Your render may be bound by a single threaded process or I/O."

Yea, it's still an issue for me, I've restorted to lower camera (aa) samples, which is really unfortunate, because it's one sample that controls the line quality. Even then it doesn't fix the issue, just delays it.
