Arnold crashing Cinema 4D

-bugreporttxt.txt

Greetings,

Arnold has never been crashing before (even IPR on this is scene is stable) but is always crashing now around the middle of rendering the first frame of rendering an animation. I am attaching the crash log and write my system info:

Cinema 4D R20.026

Arnold 5.3.0.1
1 x AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX 32-Core Processor (32 cores, 64 logical) with 32658MB
NVIDIA driver version 419.67
GPU 0: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB @ 1771MHz (compute 6.1) with 6144MB (5597MB available)
Windows 8 Professional (version 6.2, build 9200)

So it's not the IPR but the PV render which is crashing, right? CPU or GPU render? Can you try with the latest version (C4DtoA 2.5.2.1 / Arnold 5.3.1.1)? Can you send me your scene to reproduce the crash here?

Hey @Peter Horvath,

After spending 6 hours trying to debug this veeery weird bug I used kick to render this scene from the command line. Arnold (CPU) was crashing again so I was sure it had nothing to do with C4D. Turning on and off and adding to the scene one object/material at a time I found the culprit! It was a Randomwalk 2 (experimental) SSS material on a Quixel plant that was causing this nasty crash. Not knowing the innards of Arnold's source, scenebounds to crash due to SSS was totally out of guess for me.

I guess that's why this feature is called experimental, although I have rendered numerous scenes with RW2 turned on.

If you still need the scene I will try to pack it and send it over to you (it's huge btw due to Megascans assets).

Thx for the reply!

I'm glad you could find the cause of the crash and thanks for sharing the info. There are no reported issues with randomwalk v2 afaik. Would be great if you could send me the scene either here or privately and we'll take a look.
