Using Maya 2017, how do I render using a texture plugged into the specular roughness?

Currently I have a png plugged into the specular roughness but Arnold renders as if I have roughness set to 1. I have "alpha is luminance" checked.

Ah, quite right. I needed to upgrade to the latest version. However, I have another question now: How did you connect the "out colour" (whick I believe is RGB) to the spec rough (Grayscale)?

You don't see it in the Hypershade window? Which version of the plugin are you using?

You may need to connect the file texture to a Range shader to see any results in the Specular Roughness.

Thanks for the answer, any idea where the range shader can be found?

That "range shader" seems to be missing for me @Lee Griggs
