Shadow matte reflection

Arnold reflections in shadow matte material look bad and they have been broken for years now. Please fix this.

Mental ray and ART work perfectly with matte/shadow/reflections in Max 2017- the last version to have rendering engine shipping with Max to have proper reflections. I teach compositing cg and live footage in Max and I'd like to upgrade my classes to use Max 2020 and Arnold this fall, but I can't justify teaching something that's not working.

Added an image for clarification. Max 2020 Arnold and Max 2017 ART scenes attached. Thank you for reading.

Composit a couple of AOV's.

The matte is not able to do what you want.

But you can still get an end result.

Since you already work with compositing for the final product ( else you wouldnt want to use a matte ) you just add the assembly in the post application you are going to use anyways.

This is beyond frustrating.  Mental Ray, no problem.  Now the replacement, Arnold renderer, apparently can't do this.  I teach 3ds max as well and I'm stuck!  We are talking about basic functionality here
