So I just downloaded the arnold render plugin for Houdini 17.5 (HTOA 4.2) on Ubuntu 18.04. I get the arnold rop no problem but under devices i have no option to switch devices used for rendering. I have an RTX 2080 Ti card and the proprietary 430 driver installed. Card works perfect. Why isnt the option showing up?
Thanks guys!
We hide that UI only on macOS
Are there any errors at startup? (if you start houdini from a terminal, you'll see an HtoA log)
What about the Parameter Interface? Do you see render device listed there?
@Stephen Blair I just rebooted my computer back into Ubuntu and houdini since I posted this and it loaded up. I had just installed it on the computer and restarted Houdini and was getting the arnold rops, but seems I had to restart the whole computer for those all the changes to take effect. I suppose that has to do with the fact its want to deal with the hardware. So its working now! thank you!
I do have a question though regarding what came up in the terminal if youre able to answer. So I have an Autodesk student account so I get Maya and mtoa for free? Htoa has watermark error because I dont have licensing on it (trying to load on personal PC). Is there a way to put arnold licensed with my student autodesk account in Houdini? I registered with solid angle with my autodesk student account to download htoa.
I'd been trying to get a hold of someone at Autodesk with other issues regarding Maya 2018 in Ubuntu 18.04, but no response.
Right now, there are no Arnold licenses for individual students. Schools can get a bulk license, but there's no support yet for individual licenses.
