banding banding banding in DEPTH!!???

4512-clip.png

hello i'm getting weird banding in a circular rings from right of screen.

I'm rendering Z pass as 32 bit exr no compression and i'm still getting banding. I've tried different file formats, filters, separating renders to different drivers, half float, changing clipping plane to be much smaller and i'm completely stumped. Any thoughts? i've attached image to show what i can see when i crush the image in nuke. I'm fairly sure it's not a weird viewport thing because i'm viewing float and pixel values jump between bands.

Is it happening with all scenes or just this one? Do you have a simplified scene?

How are you rendering it? Batch, Render Sequence or are you saving it through the Renderview window?

I'm batch rendering. It also happens with a fresh scene, only plane and camera (2018.6). If i rotate the render cam towards the world centre, then the rings change. Scene scale: centimeters. distance to far edge of plane 5000 metres.

comparison of custom Z pass(with sampler info) to Arnold default Z with similar ranges set. I've not tested this with the latest version of arnold as an upgrade is not an option right now. I'll just have to do a render layer overide for now. but i will investigate this further when i have more time.
