You can set the Sky Radius to 0 in the Viewport attributes of the Skydome light. An easier thing to do is add the following to a hotkey:

setAttr "aiSkyDomeLight1.skyRadius" 0;

As this is a frequently asked question we have provided both the question and answer in this thread.

You can also not show lights in the VP.

This worked to hide the sky dome in the viewport but it still rendered for me in the renderer.

How do we see it in viewport but it doesn't visibly render as a background?

You can disable Camera Visibility.

@Lee on the transform node of the Skydome. "Display" set LOD visibility to off(flag check off)

It depends on what renderer you are using, I'm going got assume that you are using Arnold, select the skydome light and then in attributes section find the 'Arnold' section and set the 'Camera' scroll bar to 0. This will prevent Arnold form rendering your hdri in the view but it will still be used to light the view. Hope it helps : )

Change Value of Camera from 1 to 0

That actually hides it in the render. Setting the sky_radius to 0, hides it in the viewport.
