Noice workflow problem

Hi,

I'm having some trouble using Noice in c4d; i've tried using a suggested workflow by Stephen Blair, in an old post, but it seems i can't get it to work.

Basically what i do is:

  1. Open the Arnold Renderer Settings
  2. Click the Denoiser tab
  3. Expand the Input
  4. Click Create EXR Driver
  5. Render
  6. Save the file as a OpenEXR 32bit
  7. In the Render Settings, go to the Arnold > Denoise tab and load (Input) the exr files output by the Arnold denoiser driver
  8. Click denoise

The problem i'm having, is that it doesn't save the denoised file in the specified position, or in any other one. The console reads as follows:

-----------------

Denoising image: test3.exr (1/1)

"/Applications/MAXON/Cinema 4D R19/arnold/bin/noice" -f 1 -pr 1 -sr 18 -v 1.000000 -ef 0 -i "/Users/Marco/Desktop/test3.exr" -o "/Users/Marco/Desktop/test3_denoised.exr"

noice 5.2.0.0 [4fb9451c] - the Arnold denoiser

Loading images...

Loading file "/Users/Marco/Desktop/test3.exr".

Working with 1 frame.

Start denoising (patch radius 1, search radius 18, variance 1)

Finished denoising

The number of output paths does not match the number of inputs.

Denoising image done in 00:00:00,211

==================

Denoising 1 image completed in 00:00:00,214

-----------------

Right now i'm using the 2.4.0.1 version of Arnold.

I'm definitely doing something wrong, but i don't know what. Can someone help me out?

Cheers

You're using an older version of Arnold, so first thing I would do is upgrade.

Then I would check that test3.exr is not a flat exr, and that it really does have the extra AOVs that noice requires.

The noice log should list feature AOVs and mention variance

Denoising image: test3.exr (1/1)
"C:\Program Files\MAXON\Cinema 4D R20\plugins\C4DtoA\arnold\bin\noice.exe" -f 1 -pr 3 -sr 9 -v 0.500000 -t -1 -ef 0 -i "C:\Users\Stephen Blair\Documents\maya\projects\default\images\denoise_test\test3.exr" -o "C:\Users\Stephen Blair\Documents\maya\projects\default\images\denoise_test\test_denoised3.exr"
noice 5.4.0.1 - the Arnold denoiser
Using 39 threads.
Loading images...
Loading file "C:\Users\Stephen Blair\Documents\maya\projects\default\images\denoise_test\test3.exr".
Using feature AOV 'diffuse_albedo' with filter 'gaussian_filter'
Using feature AOV 'N' with filter 'gaussian_filter'
Using feature AOV 'Z' with filter 'gaussian_filter'
Working with 1 frame at 1024x1024
Will denoise AOV "RGBA", using associated variance
Output file will be "C:\Users\Stephen Blair\Documents\maya\projects\default\images\denoise_test\test_denoised3.exr"
Start denoising (patch radius 3, search radius 9, variance 0.5)
Denoising RGBA
Finished denoising
Saving image C:\Users\Stephen Blair\Documents\maya\projects\default\images\denoise_test\test_denoised3.exr (1024 x 1024 x 4)

Hi Stephen,

I think i managed to solve my problem, i was missing the 3 AOV specified in your log and i was rendering with the "driver_c4d_display" enabled, instead of the Arnold denoiser.

By the way, why is noice requiring the diffuse_albedo, N and Z AOV to denoise the image?
I couldn't find any info in the support portal.

Thanks
