I updated all of our machines at our university lab to Maya 2018.6/Arnold 6 and Maya 2020/Arnold 6. Today, I figured it was time to get Arnold 6 network rendering going (we were on Arnold 5 until today for network rendering) and (after a lot of troubleshooting since we assumed network problems) we figured out that Arnold 6 ist requesting Arnold_2020 network keys while our server only deploys Arnold_2018 licenses. Since there is currently no 2020 "School:Deploy with network server" version available for download on the Autodesk website of arnold standalone I can only generate 2018 license files through my Autodesk account. I know, you usually cannot comment on upcoming releases, however since there is no info to be found online about this: Is it a matter of a few weeks until Arnold 2020 is available for schools or should we better downgrade to Arnold 5 again for the time being? It's quite frustrating to seldomly have any clear info on these kind of licensing/release issues (since arnold 6 is out for a while now, and Maya 2020 EDU is available already) and our students are waiting to test out new features and to finish their projects. Don't get me wrong – as a school we are really thankful for Autodesk software being so easily accessible to us and our students. However, it's quite frustrating when working with Maya/Arnold professionally and then always hitting unexpected issues (while halfway through upgrading already…) when trying to teach the very software we use in a commercial environment everyday to new students in the education environment. Any pointers on when we might expect Arnold 2020 EDU would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Lennart
Unfortunately, it seems there's often a delay before new versions show up on the Autodesk Education Portal (or, for that matter, in commercial customer accounts).
Arnold 6 was released, so if I knew anything more I would have no problem commenting on it.
I'll start asking around. The Arnold team doesn't handle the Autodesk Education Portal, so I have to find out who to ask first...
