HtoA 5 Issues

Hi all,

I've used Arnold 6 in Maya and was really stoked to get it up and running in Houdini with HtoA 5.0.1!
But unfortunately I've run into some issues.

1. I cannot find any shaders or materials in any context. In SHOP I can find "arnold_vopnet" and in MAT the "arnold_materialbuilder" - but inside both of them there are no relevant nodes.
"Output", "Texture" and "Utility" are the only ones and they only contain a few of the nodes they are supposed to.

2. I tried out GPU with a scene containing packed geo. I might have missed something in the release notes but they do not appear in the scene. Do I need to unpack all of it or is something wrong?


Here's the relevant part of the houdini.env - it is currently the only thing in it. (apart from the standard lines)

Check that you can get HtoA loaded with just PATH and HOUDINI_PATH

That's the recommended way.

Hi Stephen,

HtoA was always loading - both with just PATH and HOUDINI_PATH, but also with all the additional variables.
Now it magically works and I have no idea why at all. I've restarted the computer several times and now everything just appeared with me making no changes, so I have no light to shed on the issue I'm afraid.

I would still like to know whether the GPU can't render packed geometry or if something is still wrong.

The packed are working now - I'm very confused but I guess I'll have to do some more digging in my computer instead.

Geometry is geometry, if it renders with CPU it should render on GPU.

Anything in the Arnold log?

If you turn on Ignore Shaders and render, does it show up?

Hi again,

I am really sorry for being so unhelpful but the packed geo has shown up now!
I really have nothing to add, I didn't do anything to fix it so I'm fairly certain something's up with my hardware or OS.

I encountered the same situation,and i found it will works if i not load HOUDINI_DSO_PATH in houdini env
