The latest version of Arnold is 6.0.1

I guess you are using HtoA 5.0.2

If you're on Windows, what's logged in the Houdini Console?

Check the node info on the Arnold ROP, what's logged by Arnold?

I'm not sure about Houdini 17.5.501
https://www.sidefx.com/download/daily-builds/#category-devel
Houdini 17.5.391 to Houdini 17.5.460
I can help if you post your houdini.env here?

I have two PC's.

sharing the same spec mostly but in one of them Arnold ( 5.0.2) works just fine, in the other, Not!

in fact for the not working one, I get nothing in the console.

don't know how to get arnold logging!

thank you

Arnold ROP > Diagnostics tab

Increase the log verbosity.

Get the Help > About Houdini > Show Details from each machine, and compare them. Anything different?

Does render to mplay work? Render to disk?

I compared two PC's and nothing and no serious dissimilarity except loginserver.

but interestingly Arnold Rop is complaining and It reads like this:

......

00:00:00 72MB | [hick] Start
00:00:00 72MB | [hick] Received: log_verbosity: 7942
00:00:00 72MB | [hick] Received: log_console_enable: 1
00:00:00 73MB WARNING | unable to load dynamic library C:/Users/jamshidi/htoa/htoa-5.0.2_raba8949_houdini-17.5.460/htoa-5.0.2_raba8949_houdini-17.5.460/arnold/drivers\driver_houdini.dll: The specified procedure could not be found. ....

I don't know about this error and this dll.

I read about this here:

https://answers.arnoldrenderer.com/questions/12796/htoa-rendering-error.html

I think this is a common problem yes?

thank you

It is a regular .env file like:

# htoa config start

PATH = "$PATH;C:/Users/hadi/htoa/htoa-5.0.2_r5e954ab_houdini-17.5.460/htoa-5.0.1_r5e954ab_houdini-17.5.460/scripts/bin"

HOUDINI_PATH = "C:/Users/hadi/htoa/htoa-5.0.2_r5e954ab_houdini-17.5.460/htoa-5.0.1_r5e954ab_houdini-17.5.460;&"

PXR_PLUGINPATH_NAME = "C:/Users/hadi/htoa/htoa-5.0.2_r5e954ab_houdini-17.5.460/htoa-5.0.1_r5e954ab_houdini-17.5.460/hydra"

# htoa config end

and It is working on my other PC quite fine.

2 reports doesn't make it common.

Is Houdini installed in the same place on each machine? In the default location, or a custom location?

yes I suspected the error in your houdini.env file : 5.0.2 and 5.0.1 must be both 5.02 or 5.01
in PATH & HOUDIN_PATH
htoa-5.0.2_r5e954ab_houdini-17.5.460 and
htoa-5.0.1_r5e954ab_houdini-17.5.460
PXR PLUGINPATH_NAME is for Houdini 18 I already mentioned this, Solidangle or AD Should corrected this issue
Here is my houdini.env file

PATH = "$PATH;C:/Users/rachid/htoa/htoa-5.0.2_raba8949_houdini-17.5.460/htoa-5.0.2_raba8949_houdini-${HOUDINI_VERSION}/scripts/bin"
HOUDINI_PATH = "C:/Users/rachid/htoa/htoa-5.0.2_raba8949_houdini-17.5.460/htoa-5.0.2_raba8949_houdini-${HOUDINI_VERSION};&"

I installed it on the 3rd PC and working fine.

I did some renders and found out that It actually renders to disk, but doesn't render to Mplay ( render view).

I can't find the solution.

Use Process Monitor to get a log that shows what's happening when Houdini / HtoA tries to load driver_houdini. Most likely it's a DLL version problem. For example, it could be an incompatible version of zlib1.dll

  • Download Process Monitor and extract it to a folder https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processmonitor.aspx
  • Start Process Monitor and start capturing events (CTRL+E or the magnifying glass icon)
  • Start Houdini
  • Render something to get the error
  • Go back to Process Monitor and stop capturing events
  • Save the Process Monitor log to a .PML file
  • Zip up the log and post it somewhere.

do I need to upload it here to analyze?

I couldn't find anything wrong.

this is the rest of the error by arnold rop, I thought I might be something:

00:00:00 73MB ERROR | [ass] line 35: node "driver_houdini" is not installed
00:00:00 74MB WARNING | rendering with watermarks because the skip_license_check option was enabled

Upload it to a file sharing site, like DropBox.
