GPU Render noisy, but rendered region much less noise?

Hello All.

Maya 2020, Arnold 4.0.1.1

When I start a GPU render and it finishes, it's very noisy. However, without changing any settings if I render a regions... that region has much less noise in it. See attached.5871-testimage.jpg

Anyone know what's going on there? Why would that happen?

Hey the other thing I'll add is that I'm rendering this scene at something like... 400x900pxs. and it renders to 100% in about a minute. Or at least Arnold says it's 100% but the render is noisy. Which I know GPU rendering is noisy.

If I crank up the res to double that... 800 x 1800px the render gets to about 96% and then hangs.

Not sure what's going on there either...

Thanks.

To the right of this page are instructions for how to get an arnold log. Can you try reporting a full verbosity log for both cases you report? And if you batch render, does it also have this problem? If so, a log for that would be helpful as well.

RenderSectionREnderLog.txt5867-annotation-2020-02-10-104900.pngWhen I batch render my scene Arnold never finished. I get to "Rendering Post Processing" but that's it.

Attached are my two log files. One from Arnold>Render. The other from when I Arnold>Render. It finishes with noise and then I select, Render Region to the same image and it renders with less noise.

Also I'm attaching my image.

Those logs do not appear to have the full logging info. Could you try in the Arnold Render View:

Click View/Full Log.
Click Render and clear the check box for Progressive Refinement.

Now you will get the full Arnold log for just the final progressive render (eg the render with the AA settings from the Render Settings)

Or alternatively you could Render > Current Frame (that uses the old Maya Render View).

Whatever you choose, can you show the log for that and indicate whether it rendered correctly? No need to supply an image since the visual problem (not rendering final pass) seems to be clear.

Ok. Here is my log from my most recent render.

The render status bar only made it to 97% and then just hangs. Pretty simple scene. Not too much geometry, 1 directional light, 1 aiPhysicalSky. Using aiStandard shaders...

Thanks!

The log isn't showing any rendering occurring. Did you make sure to make it full verbosity (check all the verbosity flags)?

The one thing I do see in the log are some warnings. I don't know if that's related:

00:00:01 WARNING |   /group8/podusgka_kreslo_group5_polySurface14/podusgka_kreslo_group5_polySurface14Shape: indexed user-data in companion array has out-of-bounds indices in map1idxs! (should be less than 0) -- disabling user-data 'map1'

Also, we just released a new version of Arnold 6.0.2 today, so it's worth trying that out just in case it's already fixed.

I also have noisy scenes. I think Arnold gpu is buggy as hell at the moment. It is a toy compared to Octane. It hangs here also with just a sphere in scene. Adaptive not working at the moment in Maya.
