Arnold 6 Isolate Selected/Test Resolution bug?

Hi!

Running into a bug using Isolated Selected with Test Resolution currently.

Using Maya 2020, MtoA 4.0.1.1, Arnold Core 6.0.1.1

The issue: When using Isolate Selected and less than 100% Test Resolution, as I step through the various objects in the scene the resolution in Arnold Renderview randomly resizes to a smaller resolution. For example: A 2K square at 50% test res (so 1K square) will randomly resize itself to 1024x512, then smaller, then sometimes back to square but even smaller. Updating the scene fixes the problem, but is a serious workflow/efficiency issue.

It's hard to describe so here is a link to a YouTube video of the problem in action: https://youtu.be/uVSUBrH_N8A

This also happens with 100% test resolution but far, far less frequently.

Currently using a fresh Maya 2020 install and updated to MtoA 4.0.1.1 (the MtoA update coincidentally fixed the same issue but when adjusting light properties like exposure, spread, etc).

Until this is sorted we've had revert to Maya 2019 along with the unfortunate additional render license costs.

Thank you!

Steve

ps tried to upload the test scene file but the upload widget told me the file type (tried both .mb and .ma) were invalid.

Hi Steve,

this issue should be fixed in latest MtoA 4.0.2, please let us know if it's still failing on your side.

Cheers

Hi Sebastien,

Sorry for the late response in getting back to you. Thank you for your reply. I updated to the new Arnold version and, unfortunately, the same issue is persisting with 4.0.2.

I will say that the issue at '100%' test resolution seems to be fixed (yay! thanks!) with this version, but at smaller test resolutions it is still a problem.

A workaround (with Isolate selected 'on') has been to stop the render in between selecting different lights and then resuming the render which doesn't seem to trigger the resize problem. It just means lots of extra mouse moves and clicks.

I've been replicating the problem trying to find some sort of pattern that might help you troubleshoot the root cause but I've had no luck. Sometimes I can select a dozen or more different lights/objects before it happens and sometimes it occurs the first time I select something different. Both times using the same scene. No pattern I've discovered yet.

We've decided, in the end, to move forward with using Maya 2020 despite the issues, seeing as how we have a semi-workaround figured out.

Thank you for your time!

Steve

Hi Paolo,

Check my reply to Sebstien. There is a bit of a workaround in there that might help you for the time being.

Cheers,

Steve

Still an issue on Arnold 4.2

Will it ever be fixed?
