General/Legacy Maps Not Showing In Material Previews

The issue is that general/legacy maps stopped previewing in material nodes in recent releases. This used to work in release MaxtoA-3.2.53 and prior. Not sure in which release this issue first appeared but here is a list of the releases where I noted it.

3.2.53 Worked

3.2.66 Did not work

4.0.0.73 Worked

4.0.1.44 Did not work

4.0.2.24 Did not work

Would this be a bug, or are general/legacy maps not going to be supported in this way anymore?

Thanks.

Non of those are really that sexy, and we are moving towards OSL taking over the operation on a lot of accounts. Those works fine in the thumbnails and viewport already.
Perhaps some of the cornercases can be covered better, but not high priority IMO.

You should use the OSL Color node instead of that legacy color node, or use my MDColor, which does what Vray and corona color does ( and its part of Arnold converter plugin I do ) so you can move around them seamlessly.

I have to say though, if you are using thumbnails, for anything, you are slowing down your efficiency by many factors and you WILL experience actual slowdowns, especillay when you start to build larger node works, I have it off 100% at all times, to get the best speed.

6007-viewport-and-render.jpgThank you for the reply.

I had tried the OSL color node before, but it did not show in the viewport. Since you mentioned that OSLs work in the viewport I looked at it again and found out that it doesn't work on Arnold Map to Material. It does show in the material preview but doesn't work in the viewport.

In our workflow our materials are very simple, basically multiplying a flat color with ambien occlusion through Map to Material. Being able to see the color in the viewport is high priority for previewing animations.

Will OSL maps work with Map to Material in the future?
