Cryptomatte AOVs not working in Arnold 6 with both GPU and CPU rendering?

It seems Cryptomatte AOVs are not working in Arnold 6 with both GPU and CPU rendering (MaxtoA 4.0.2.24). I see it is listed as not working with GPU renders, but there is no mention of it not working in CPU renders.

Is there a date when this feature will be re-enabled? This is a big part of our workflow.

Thnx

Cryptomatte works with Arnold 6, I just tested it the other day. If there's a problem, it's either the scene set up or the specific plugin you're using.

Update: I just tried with 3ds Max 2020 and the latest MAXtoA, and cryptomatte worked.

It works on my end with cpu. Latest updates and max version.

Probably the same issue as the other topic. Add the cryptomatte to the maps for aov shaders.

I am using max 2020.0, because of backburner issues we were having with 2020.3. Which max are you using?

This my setup max:

I indeed use max version 2020.3

Did you add the cryptomatte shader as I did? That's not visible from your screenshots.

It used to be underneath the aov section, you can see it in the documentation:

https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AF3DSUG/Cryptomatte

Now it has the same location, but the aov manager has a popup window.(the window in your screenshot)

So go to the render settings and the aov tab and there add the cryptomatte map to it like on my screenshot.

Thnx Michiel and Stephen. That was straight up user error 😞

However, once I moved from 2020.0 to 2020.3 and the most recent MAXtoA, only the CPU renders build the correct cryptomatte EXRs.
