How can I network render without watermarks with several 3dsMax network licenses?

I want to rephrase this question:
https://answers.arnoldrenderer.com/questions/578/why-i-see-watermarks-on-render-when-i-use-backburn....
I was looking through existing questions, but among several suggestions few adresses the actual problem I have so I tired. I'm sorry if I repeat something already answered elsewhere.

We have several Autodesk Construction Collection licenses, 3dsmax with Arnold included that I can access on any computer at work.

How do I distribute a network render (without backburner apparently) to escape the watermark?

Each render machine have a potential network license (there are always some aunused). But Arnold seems to ignore this entirely when using backburner. I understand that backburner might not be able to check for network licenses, but is there a workaround?

Can I distribute network renderings with all our licenses in any other (non manual way) without backburner?

Kindly

Jim

Hi Jim

You need Arnold licenses, which are separate purchase (they are not included in the Construction Collection).

3dsmax with Arnold included means that you can render without a watermark in the 3ds Max user interface.

A network render happens outside the user interface, and so requires an Arnold license.

You can use Backburner, it's the Arnold licenses that you need.

OK. I think I get then how the pricing model works (finally!).

I'm a bit flustered with how hard it is to get this explained properly and completely in one place.
Can you please just confirm my description in my own words below?

MAXtoA is (as is often stated) is not really a full Arnold Render License or how to put it right? But you can render directly in Max with it. It doesn't really help however many 3dsMax ith MAXtoA licenses you have on any amount of computers, right?

But apparently I can run test renders (with watermarks) in Backburner with MAXtoA, so I can prepare everything until I need to render proper. And then I can purchase as many licenses I need for a limited time (a month minimum?) and render my stuff.

Or do I presume too much?

Kindly.

Hi @

Here's how I usually explain it:

  • MAXtoA is a free plugin.
  • 3ds Max does not include an Arnold license
  • Arnold does not use 3ds Max licenses in any way
  • Arnold will render without a watermark in the 3ds Max user interface...that's a special benefit for Autodesk customers
  • Arnold is fully functional, even without a license. An Arnold license does one thing only: remove the watermark.

For Arnold subscriptions:

  • Monthly subscriptions are single-user only (that means you have to assign a named user to the Arnold subscription, and sign in on the render machine)
  • Annual subscriptions can be single-user or multi-user (network) subscriptions

For network rendering, I recommend network (multi-user) licensing. But I understand that you may not want an annual subscription if you just need to render for a few weeks.
