NLM issue with C4DtoA Update

I renewed my Arnold C4DtoA Maintenance plan at the end of last year but have held up on installing any updates since 2.6.1.5 as I was dealing with numerous deadlines and didn't want to take a chance on disrupting my workflow.

2.6.1.5 is running fine on C4D R20; the license server is set to start when my Mac boots up. I installed 3.0.3 onto R21, but when I run that I get a watermark.

I've figured out that in the Arnold License Manager I have to change that to Network license, and this is what I'm seeing:

License.jpeg

Are there clear, step-by-step directions somewhere on how to make 3.0.3 on R21 see the License server I have running? Or do I have to update that somehow to work with this new version of C4DtoA? Stephen Blair took control of my computer a few years ago to set this up, so I'm a bit lost.

Thanks.

Shawn

Did you generate a new network license?

Arnold 6 (C4DtoA 3) use "Arnold 2020" licenses. Since older C4DtoA works, I suspect you don't have a 2020 license. That's what the license manager is telling us: no license for Arnold 2020

Getting your network license:

https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/x/zocfBg

Adding a new license to the license server:

Stephen:

Thanks for the quick reply. I was able to generate a 2020 license file and copy into the /usr/local/flexnetserver folder.

It looks like the Arnold License Manager is seeing that there's a 2020 license available (issued):

lmutil lmstat -S adskflex -a -c @localhost -f 87287ARNOL_2020_0F (0.05 sec)

But I still get a watermark, and the License Manager interface says "Server list is currently overridden by the ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE environment variable. Please edit the environment variable if you want to make changes." I have no idea what any of that means.

I see status errors saying "Generic license checkout error." Screen grab attached.

I currently have the 2018 and 2020 licenses in the flexnetserver folder (I didn't want to risk removing the 2018 license and breaking what was working). I restarted my Mac to restart the license server in case that was an issue, but no luck.

Best,

Shawn Marshall

You have an older version of the license server.

adskflex: UP v11.13.1

You'll need to install the latest version.

In the Arnold License Manager, click File > Install License Server

Stephen:

I ran the wizard to install this updated license server, selecting the new 2020 license it asked for, but it still isn't working in R21. Not only that, but it broke my older C4DtoA install that was working fine in R20. Not good.

My system had been set up to automatically launch the old license server upon boot on my Mac Pro. After restarting, the Terminal window appears to be showing a problem.

Last login: Thu Apr 23 12:25:50 on console
Cannot open "/usr/local/flexnetserver/solidangle.log" as log file (1)
freopen: Permission denied
MacPro-12Core:~ ShawnM$

I have no idea what to do in Terminal to correct this. When replying please assume you're talking to someone who knows almost nothing about working in Terminal.

I see that Sebastian Stanek on the C4DtoA email group had a similar problem today. Presumably he installed the newer license server and "killed all flexera processes and restarted the license servers." I assume restarting my machine restarted the license server(s), but I have no idea what's actually running now that I've presumably installed the latest version. Are two running now? Does the new install overwrite the old one? Beats me.

Ok, it seems your license server was set up quite awhile ago, using an old way of doing things.

Open a Terminal and run this command

mv ~/.profile ~/profile.bak

Then restart the computer.

If you still have problems, contact me at support at arnoldrenderer.com and we'll do a TeamViewer session

Hi:

I just got back from the grocery store. Ugh.

Anyway, this terminal command and restart removed the error I was seeing in the terminal interface, but I'm still getting watermarks in both R20 and R21.

These are the diagnostics from the Arnold License Manager:

I have a deadline to attend to that will tie me up until around 5pm. If you don't see any obvious new commands you can provide then we should probably do a Team session as you suggested after 5pm today or anytime tomorrow after 10:30am.

Thanks for the prompt replies; I appreciate it.

I suspect there's a lock file:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Error-adskflex-exited-wi...

I'm in Montreal Canada, where it's currently 7:15pm

If we can do a TeamViewer tomorrow that would be best.

Hi:

Adding a .bak extension to that file seems to have done the trick, thanks! No idea what that did, but whatever.

C4DtoA is working in both R20 and R21. Were I to install S22 and C4DtoA is there anything special I would have to do at that point?

Cheers.

Shawn

Nothing special for S22, it uses the same Arnold 6 config.
