Hello,
I have encountered an odd problem in the latest build of C4DtoA (maybe even before, I am not quite sure since when it doesn't work properly anymore): The picture viewer will not render hair anymore, even in scenes that worked fine before and were not changed in any way. I got away for a while by rendering in the IPR window and exporting snapshots from there, but now I need to work with animation that I cannot do in the IPR.
I have found threads with similar problems (but mostly hair instances), that suggested putting an Arnold tag on the Hair or put it under a connect object, but both doesn't work for me. Could this be a bug? Or is there a workaround around this for the latest build? I am using R21 of Cinema4D.
Did anybody have similar experiences? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂
Best regards,
Fynn

Can you post a scene that has the problem?
Hi Stephen, thank you very much for your fast response. I have attached a scene file of a simple scene that rendered hair fine in Picture viewer before and wasn't changed since then. You may need to disable the hair density maps in the hair material because the textures are missing (I had 4K textures over several bitmaps, so the file size would probably be too big). Let me know if you need the textures for checking the hair.
OK, it seems like the file is too big anyway, i have now sent it via WeTransfer, here is the link:

Thanks a lot for your help and best regards,

I think it's Hair Object > Generate > Type, which is currently set to None
Hair render implementation has been changed in C4DtoA 3.0.2. Now the Hair is generated by the native Hair Render effect when rendering to the Picture Viewer to match the Standard Renderer in all cases. As I see Hair Render is missing from your render settings, you have to add it manually (Effect... -> Hair Render).
Yes that was it! I guessed it was probably a change in hair handling, but I was always looking at the hair tags and Arnold settings to troubleshoot, I would have never thought about the Standard renderer settings. It works perfectly fine now.
Thank you so much for your help, I would probably have been stuck on this one forever.
