No GI on displaced surfaces.

Hello. Been trying to recreate this scene with some help from the quixel employee who made the gif. 6940-0ig0syoumt.gifHowever i am not getting any bounce lighting at all on my displaced surface. I tried in both maya and houdini with no luck. We made sure all the settings matched 1:1 - and i even send him my scene to double check everything was set up right.

I am running the newest arnold plugin and the newest nvidia studio driver. And these are the results im getting.

As you can see there is no light bounce at all happening with the displaced geometry - even with 16 bounces. I tried doing the same setup on non displaced geo and it works just fine.

This is the result i should be getting. Talked with another guy on the quixel discord channel having the exact same problems - could there be a problem with arnold - or am i simply missing something completely here ?

So, it works if you don't use displacement, and the problem happens only when you have displacement?

Did you check the Arnold log? Are there warnings about displacement bounds?


You'll probably need to provide a data set that reproduces the problem, or more specific instructions for reproducing the problem, because it works here for me.
