Crash upon entering Network Editor

Hi!

This problem has occured a few times now - Cinema4D crashes when I enter the Arnold Network Editor. It only happens occasionally, not very often, but it bugs me because it crashes C4D completely and harshly without saving any bugreport save. It doesn't freeze, it just crashes and closes from one second to the next.

I don't know if my setup/layout/habits may be responsible for this: I have the network editor docked in the same window as the viewport, so changing to the editor switches from my viewport panel. I also tend to open the network editor by middlemouse clicking the material in the material manager. I have the feeling that the crashes occur more frequently when I use the middle mouse method.

Have not received any similar reports so far. Do you have the IPR running when it crashes? Does it also crash when you just switch tabs and not using the middle mouse?

I will be more conscious about this and try to see if it also happens upon switching tabs. I generally feel before clicking MMB on a material "maybe that's a bad idea" and then it crashes 🙂 I don't remember having this feeling before switching tabs so it may be the middle mouse thing. I will stop using middle mouse and will let you know if it happens with the tabs aswell

I tried to leave the middle mouse click away, and I still get occasional crashes when switching to the network editor even when using the normal button. But at least it does not crash as hard, it saves a bugreport before, but there is nothing interesting in there

Thanks Fynn. I'm going to use the same layout for a couple of days to see if I can reproduce the crash.

Great, I have attached you a screenshot of my startup layout. I will watch if it also happens when I'm in my animation layout, where the network editor is not docked.

So far I could observe that the IPR window is always visible when the crash happens (as it is docked), but is mostly not turned active.7293-layoutleft.png7295-layoutright.png

I was not able to reproduce this so far despite using the same tabbed layout and I have no idea at the moment what could cause this. Haven't seen anything suspicious in the code.

Thank you so much for looking into it though. I noticed that it does not happen when the editor is not tabbed, maybe it is some specific thing or a plugin that causes the crash in my setup.

I can also confirm that middle mouse button did not increase the chance of the crash, so it was only the action to switch to the network editor.

When the editor 'opens', the plugin checks if the window is visible and tries to bring it to the front if not. Using only the C4D SDK to do so, maybe it's something with that.

Does Cinema write out any BugReport file when crashing maybe?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no, I will see if I can recover a bugreport next time it happens
