AMD Ryzen 9 3950x 16-Core vs Threadripper 2950X 16-Core

I have a question regarding two machines I am working with:

At work I have an older Threadripper 2950X 16-Core and a new Ryzen 9 3950x 16-Core. On paper, the newer 3950x should be faster but the exact same scene takes twice as long as on the Threadripper (~40 minutes/frame on 3950x / ~20 minutes/frame on the Threadripper), both are running Maya with Arnold 5.

I am not much of a tech-guy and the problem I have can't be solved by IT because they are not into rendering and don't know how Arnold works on CPU. They suggested going online with this topic. Whats the issue? Does anyone have an idea what I can do to get the 3950x faster?

We would need a log file to see why its slower.

@ Right, can you post an Arnold log (verbosity level Info) ?

Hey everyone. Thank you for your quick- and sorry for my late reply!

I did some testing with a fresh scene, same frame on both machines and checked the log.

This time the result was as expected: 3950x was at 00:03:52 while the Threadripper took 00:05:24. This seems like it should, the 3950x was faster.

Maybe it was the scene itself. The whole sequence is rendered now and I took a newer shot for testing that is rendering now. Will keep an eye on rendertimes and might get back with a log if i keep getting strange results.
