How do you line up triplanar mapping with render time displacement?

I have triplanar mapping for both my displacement and color texture but they don't line up because I don't think the triplanar node is taking into account the render-time displacement.

If you use the same triplanar shader for the beauty and displacement then:

  • first the geometry is displaced according to the triplanar mapping
  • than the displaced geometry is shaded.

If I understand correctly what you're aiming for is to use a second triplanar shader for the beauty in Pref space and export the reference point of the geometry (Arnold Tag > Export: Record reference object and Export reference points).

I wasn't trying to export any geometry... But I was just having an issue with Triplannar mapping aligning with displacement... Take a look at this screen grab... Maybe I'm not setting this up correctly?

Yeah, I think we are talking about the same thing.

Try to use a second triplanar for the beauty with Pref coord space and export the reference points of the object.

Hope this helps.

That did the trick Peter! Thanks again! I was just missing the export reference points checkbox on the tag
