Fisheye camera preview in viewport - Is that possible?

Hey,

is there a way of getting a viewport preview of the MtoA fisheye camera in Maya? The effect only works during rendertime in the Arnold Renderview.

I'm experimenting with that cool effect and wonder if there is a workaround of getting a direct preview in order to do playblasts for pre-editing.

I don't believe so. Why do you need it in the viewport? The IPR should show you the results.

To do edits with viewport- playblasts before rendering out final sequences! It works great with IPR for stills, but its cooler to have those animated playblasts to show them during dailys e.g.

DOF works pretty good in the viewport to get a glimpse of what to expect (in the Maya camera settings) and I thought that it might work with the fisheye too.

I would just render it out at low quality every few frames.

Yeah, thats the way I am doing it. But you know.. the people I pitch it to are not the creative type of people and they don't have the imagination how it will look in the end. Its like the "Derek Zoolander Center for Children who can't read good"-scene.. always the same 😄

A lot of us are now working with spherical renders and it is quite difficult to animate for spherical when you can't see it in the viewport or playblast it.  These renders also tend to be far longer than typical shots for film or tvcs.  I am doing shots of several thousand frames in length.  To get some sense of the animation I have to substitute a low poly version or just a box primitive and render it.  This is excruciatingly slow.
