How to taper aiToon edges to look more like smooth brushstrokes?

Is there a way I can taper the ends of the aiToon edges to look more like a smooth brushstroke? This technique on Arnold's help site is similar to what I'm looking for, but I need all the lines to taper where they end.

It's a bit hard to control. The example above uses a rampRGB -> edge_color

You could also try using facing_ratio -> width_scale as in this example. https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AFMUG/Edge

You could also use noise shaders as in the silhouette example at the bottom here. What does your geo look like?
