Utiliy - Object random after restart?

Hello Community,

The color which the Utility node set to Object (NotObjectID) generates, seems to change every time the program restarts. Is that intended? Whats defining the color? The documentation only says it "uses the name of the shapes". Does that mean two objects called "Sphere" will get the same color?

Thank you!

The color is based on the name of the Arnold node, which is not the same as the object name in Cinema 4D. The Arnold node name is unique, does not have any special characters (e.g. spaces are replaced with underscore, etc.) and contains the whole hierarchy (e.g. /Null/Sphere_1). For instance if you rename the object or move it under a different parent, the color will change. Also if you have two objects named 'Sphere', they will have different colors, because names are unique in Arnold ('/Sphere' and '/Sphere_2').

But the same scene should render the same even you restart Cinema 4D.

Using ids or cryptomatte is probably better.

Thanks, that explains a lot and makes sense. True - the ID is prob better, but painful to use for 400+ individual geo pieces. This now should work, just have to be careful with copying/moving hierarchies..
