AOV channel containing a custom mapped bitmap on object?

Hi. I am trying to create an AOV with a mapped image on my object. Like if you map an custom grayscale mask onto an object via it's UV coordinates, and self-illuminate the object, ignoring lighting etc, except this within an AOV.

I've been playing with AOV shaders, materials and maps, but I can't get it working.

Self-illumination? Does that mean emission? You could get emission in an AOV.

Ignoring all lighting is the hard part, otherwise you might use an AOV Write RGB or AOV Write RGBA in the shader tree assigned to that object.

that was it!! I just stuck a AOV write at the top of my main material using my main material as a passthrough and my extra image as my AOV input, then I can get to it (mapped onto my object) in the AOV manager as a custom AOV. plus, it ignores lighting!!
