All SOP level objects are available and work fine. When clicking "Render to Disk", nothing is sent to Mplay, and this error pops up.

Does this happen all the time? Has it ever worked on this machine?
Can you get a Process Monitor log? That will show what's happening when Houdini / HtoA tries to load driver_houdini. Most likely it's a DLL version problem. For example, it could be an incompatible version of zlib1.dll
