Hey!

It's a similar issue to what's going on with mesh lights. Arnold's physical sky is a skydome light with a custom shader attached to it. USD and Hydra already have a schema, "dome light, " which covers most of our skydome light features, but there is one significant limitation. You can't attach a shader network to a dome light, just a single texture. While this works ok for most cases, the physical sky is one exception.

The upcoming USD/Hydra light refactoring I mentioned in one of your other questions will solve this issue by allowing us to both define custom light types for USD and Hydra and represent lights as shader networks.

But! We are already looking into alternatives and supporting Arnold's custom schemas in Solaris (the first pull request was submitted not long ago: https://github.com/Autodesk/arnold-usd/pull/575). We can use this approach in the future to represent the physical sky in Solaris.
