xparticles trails colors related to speed or age

Hi There !

I'm trying to color some XpTrails according to there age (or speed) But I've read here that arnold can't pass xparticles colors to their trails directly yet.

So I was wondering, is there any possibility to return or calculate any object age or moving speed in a scene in arnold ? (that way we could link it to a gradient input and simulate de age or speed related coloring process on trails)

If you can write the age or speed as a user data on an object (e.g. via xpresso), then you can access that via a user_data shader.

I've just read that there was an SDK update and now trail colors are available. I have to check with Insydium if that's really the case. If so, I can add support for it in the plugin.

thanks Peter ! It seems that Xparticles comes with some xpresso node too, never used them, and particularly XpIterator which can somehow iterates through Trails spline points, I'll give it a shot to see which data can be exported this way !

and if trails color can be supported in C4DtoA in the future, that would be perfect !

thanks again !

If you can generate individual splines with the user data instead of the trails, then it could work maybe, but I don't think that's possible. At least I don't know any easy way to do it.

Let's hope there's an updated sdk. I'll let you know if I have more info.

Let's hope yes ! I'm really happy using Arnold and would like to avoid adding Cycle4D the pipe ! may be Insydium will ear us 😉

anyway thanks again for your quick answers (I didn't had time yet to test things with trails yet, I'll have some time tomorrow, if I find something i'll come back here too ! )
