Arnold User Guide instructs:
C:\solidangle\mtoadeploy\2017\shaders\cryptomatte.dll C:\solidangle\mtoadeploy\2017\shaders\cryptomatte.mtd
but not only is there no such mtoadeploy directory, but many of the folders (aexml, Args,& spdl) that come with the download don't exist either.
/Applications/solidangle/mota/2017
spdl is just for Softimage, and anyway you need just the dylib and mtd files for the shaders
right – this makes sense, but I can't seem to find the magical locations to make crypto matte show up in my AOV browser:
I know this stuff should be fairly obvious to some, but I have always struggled with this type of thing with Arnold.
ah, just read your edit. I'm still not having any success. I've copied the files to "bin" as well as "shaders," and still no cigar for me.
Also, in the User Guide, it says I should have a "AOV Shaders" section, but I don't have this either. Is this part of the issue?
@Jonathan Richter
You need to have MtoA 2.0.1 or later.
Put the two cryptomatte files in the shaders folder.
Restart Maya.
In Render Settings > AOV, expand the AOV Shaders section and click Add
In Create Render Node, go to Arnold > Utility and look for the cryptomatte shader
