shadow on aiStandardVolume issue

Hi there.

I've created this donut with sugar. I'm happy of the result but i have a problem. the sugar is made with MASH as aiStandardVolume. To achive this effects i have to force the emission and the apperance respect to no emission is what i want, no doubt. As you can see on the images. The sugar close to the floor have no shadow. One image is raw one image is with retouch in post. Does anyone can help me to resolve this issue?

Thanks

Why are you using emission?

Is density and scatter not enough?

(looks very real and tasty btw!)

Hi Lee.

No. The density and scatter don't get me the same effects.

I can share a simyfied scene.

Lee. Can I send to you this scene by email? I have no time to create a simplified scene.

Thanks

I'm curious why you are using volumes? Why not instancing small displaced spheres using Mash/XGen?

Can do. I'm just going to assign a standard_surface to it though. What do you want me to do with it?

Simple. The problem is that with the standar i cennot get the same result of aiStandardVolume. That's it.. I will try another time. I hope to find a better choice setting on the shader.

this is my test with aiStandardSurface. I've added subsurface transparency, trying to joke with parameter scale radius. Is grey, and it's lost this kind of roughness and translucenty on aiStandardVolume. Did you have an email?

Looking at photos, wouldn't a displacement map with a mix_shader work better for this effect?

No email received. Where did you send it?

There is a displacement at this time. I will do a try. Now i will like to focus on inside disp. and those this disp and mix scare me.

Can you upload the scene somewhere and put the link here instead, please?

Ok i'm finally solve this issue with Light LInk. I could solve with render setup too. The problem was the light inconsistent for lighting the volume. So, another light closest on top of the donut, do the job. I also set a light link and shadow link.

This is the result without post. It's delicious and tasty

I made the scene avalable on gumroad, for free.
