Did you restart Maya? GPU rendering won't work again until you restart.
You should also get the latest MtoA, with all the latest bug fixes and GPU updates:

Not an answer.. merely commiseration. After successfully (with some idiosyncrasies) using Arnold gpu on one project over the winter.. on the next project I simply can't get it to work. It crashes my machine.. if not Maya.. or it simply stops working. CPU works flawlessly. I've tried reinstalling graphics drivers, MtoA, clearing optix caches.. messing with TDR registries.. and more. I've got two Nvidia RTX 5000's with NVlink. I've tried without NVlink/SLI as well. Nothing I do gets it working again unless I open a simple plane and sphere skydome file and flush all caches.. switch to cpu render.. then back to gpu.. but even that eventually gets corrupted and gpu stops working. I've got the latest Maya2020.. latest MtoA, and latest Nvidia RTX driver as of 3/15/21.

Hi John,
Did you submit the report after Maya crashed ? If so we should be able to look into the crash specifically.
Do you see the GPU error on any scene, or a specific one ? If so would it be possible to share it ?
Please feel free to create a specific thread when reporting an issue.
Hey! I was having the same problem and then I realized the 'Max Texture Resolution' was set to 0 in my render settings. Seems to have fixed the issue for me!
