Hey guys. After one year from its release, is there anybody out there who uses the GPU Arnold Rendering on Maya on a regular basis and/or final renders?
Just curious to see how we compare to C4D folks!
I'm about to buy a working station in a few months and I wonder if spending money on a Nvidia RTX 2070 Super is worth it to use the GPU render, or I better stick spend more money for a good CPU.
I am very impressed by the time render differences between CPU/GPU renders!
I wont invest in a GPU with less than 12gb vram. Im not able to render production stuff with only 8gb.
Beside that i love Arnold GPU.
I use it more for LookDev, which is quite practical.
As Christoph said, running out of GPU memory can be a common issue depending on what you're rendering.
I suggest rendering your scenes on the CPU and looking at the arnold logs for how much CPU memory is used. On the GPU you'll likely need that plus a few extra GBs for other data. If you have a monitor connected to the GPU and are running other programs on that GPU (like Maya, C4D, etc.), that will use up still more memory.
